Fascinating article! Things that you have told me before are making more sense. The more I read about how you think and what you read and say has truly been awesome to learn. Thanks for what you share, you clever, lazy man.

This is great, thanks for the honest, vulnerable post David. I'm rereading 4 Hour Work Week and trying to understand how one might interpret a "Christian Lifestyle Design." I don't think the two are entirely opposed, but I do think Lifestyle Designers can tend to look toward their own material wants by building passive income and miss the point: a joyful life of contentment. These thoughts are really helpful. Thanks again.

I am so glad to come across this post. It puts into context exactly what I have said of myself to other employees and my long time boss. I AM LAZY... that is why I am always looking for an easier, faster, more efficient way to do something... because I don't to have to 'WORK' hard at everything.

I now need to concentrate and work on my clever part more and find a new way to push past the plateau I have hit these last 2-3 years. Reading your Blogs and information is really going to help. Thanks for making it available.

Finally somebody writing about minimalism that I can agree with. At the college where I worked, I was always right around the corner from the architecture teachers, and they were all apostles of holy minimalism. They all dreamed of houses that looked like tombs on the inside and were fixated on the number of things they owned. When they asked me about my ideal home I described a house that might have been owned by the Adams Family: a slightly sinister Gothic Victorian with twisty passages, lots of balconies and turrets, and a certain amount of what I call "organized clutter." They scoffed and suggested I just wasn't "educated in design."

Your observation that keeping the "stuff score" is just another kind of materialism is a genuinely profound insight, and finally explains what I've always hated about the whole subject. At the moment it seems to be going into the "which house is the smallest and most eco friendly" ego battle. Whoever has the smallest carbon footprint "wins."

Glad you liked it!! Always happy to have a new visitor...especially one willing to engage in the comments. :D

Believe it or not, I still use this strategy. I don't have tens of thousands of followers but I feel really engaged with those who do follow. My Klout score is fairly high (ya ya, I know there is debate about that) but likely is an indicator that I do indeed engage.

My two primary lists I follow in Hootsuite are definitely my inner circle group and my Interesting People group. And for sure I still look to see how much someone engages before I follow them.

In short, I'm still a bit of an arrogant bastard when it comes to Twitter. LOL

(Though I probably use smileys more than any other bastard does)

Loved this post. So glad I followed your tweets and chats on twitter that eventually got me to this blog post....see it all works in the end. Do you have any more updates on this post? I would love to know if you still maintain this strategy. Great post. Will definitely RT after I finish my comments.
