You know stuff other people want to know

Guess who's making a big announcement today. Hint: It's me. (source: visual.dichotomy)

How to…

The phrase “how to” has to be one of the most searched for phrases in all of internetdom. We constantly encounter situations where we find ourselves consciously incompetent and needing to know how to get something done. That means that everyday people search for the answers to things as varied as:

  • How to lose weight fast
  • How to kiss
  • How to tie a tie
  • How to start a business
  • How to get a six pack
  • How to make money
  • How to cook asparagus
  • How to run faster
  • How to get rid of fleas
  • How to prevent red juice from staining the carpet (this was me last week, btw)

If you know the answer to even one of those “how to” searches being performed daily, then you have something to offer.

You know stuff other people want to know.

Why this matters to you

In order to leave the template lifestyle, you’re going to need to figure something out regarding money. If you can keep your current job (assuming you have one) and go with a remote work schedule, then you are one of the lucky ones. However, we are still at a point in history where most companies limit themselves to the best people within a geographic radius instead of the best possible people regardless of location and the options that technology affords them.

Even if you decide to go the route of geoarbitrage (where you leverage the power of a strong currency in a weaker economy), you still need to make money somehow.

Those “how to” questions we were talking about matter to you because if you decide to become an entrepreneur and start your own business, all of those questions become possible markets for you to enter. If you know how to lose weight fast or get rid of fleas, then there are people who want to know what you know.

Supply and demand

Remember those two words? We learned about them in school but the truth is most people rarely think of them in the grown-up world.

Too often I hear people who have come up with “great ideas” but can’t find a single customer to purchase them. Whether or not their idea was great is not the point. The problem is that they are attempting to supply where there is no demand. You might have cured a disease, but if no one has it then no one cares; more importantly, no one is going to pay you for it!

The best business idea is to identify a demand and then create a supply to fill it.

This is where those “how to” searches start to come in handy. People searching to learn things you know how to do? Sounds like the beginning of a supply and demand model to me

The big announcement

I’ve started working on my first official entrepreneurial projects!

(And yes, that’s projects with an ‘S’…as in multiple projects.)

Like I’ve said before, I want this blog to chronicle my journey out of the template life. I’ve also tried to be as transparent with my writing as I know how.

At this point, I’m just announcing that I’ve started on my first projects as a direct result of realizing that I know stuff other people want to know. I realized that I was providing solutions to certain types of “how to” questions and seeing people have great results from them.

In other words, I identified a “demand” for which I could provide a “supply”.

Timeline

Today is the first of June. I’ll be revealing the first project prior to the end of the month.

This first one is something that I’m very excited about and that I’ve seen people respond to very well in a face to face setting. The majority of my work on this project will be to create a scalable business model that will allow me to provide the “supply” with the same (or better) quality as I have with the face to face model.

Until I officially announce what it is, I will be writing about it a bit ambiguously. However, it is my intention to share what I learn about creating a business here. Regardless of the projects that I take on, my goal will be to always use this site as a home base to communicate and share my journey and what I’m learning. That means that regardless of other projects, I’m committed to this site. :)

I wanted to say something because I’m super excited about it the projects!!!  <- Three exclamation points excited

You

The other reason that I wanted to say something is because I’d love it if there were others on this journey with me!

For those of you who have never thought about the “how to” questions or the supply and demand model, if you want to leave the template lifestyle, start thinking about it now.

Remember: You know stuff other people want to know.

Like I said, I’ll be sharing more of what I learn on this path. At the same time, I want to keep the doors open to communicate with me if you are in a similar place and wanting to move forward also.

Let me know where you are at on this journey. Just starting? Thinking about starting? Already a multi-millionaire? (We should REALLY talk if that last one is the case!)

Can’t wait to see where this leads!

      HA! Me either. :)

  • http://www.lifestyleignition.com Mark Lawrence

Leaving the template lifestyle is a path that is different for everyone. Looking forward to hearing more about this project! This is such an exciting journey!

You’re right, it is exciting. Especially the whole part where I’m telling my lizard brain to shut it’s face. LOL

You know, if you keep posting like you do, I’ll eventually hound you to start a project of your own. Can’t have you sitting at a desk the rest of your life. ;)

I’m excited to see what it is. Now, you just have to walk us through how to get our own entrepreneurial projects going so that we’ll have a guide ;-)

    • http://www.HeroicDestiny.com David Crandall

And it’s quite possible that I’ll be taking tons of notes for the purpose of creating a guide. :)

I’m glad people are excited! The encouragement does wonders for the soul!

David, nice, buddy! I’m realizing it’s best to create and ship and talk about personal actions you’ve taken (the general you) rather than the contrary (ie. not creating, not shipping, not doing). I’ve been realizing that I need to create more and then talk about the stuff I’m doing rather than getting jammed up waxing philosophical all the time (although, there’s a place for that, too). Best wishes on your e-product launch. You’ve got me curious and motivated again. Blessings, bro…drew :-)

It’s scary to think about creating something and putting it out there. I continue to feel like a fraud and wondering who I think I am to do any of this. Ha!

I keep telling myself that I’m not the one that has to make that decision.

I can’t wait to see what you are going to come up with. You’re moving in the right direction; keep going!

Exciting times indeed. I’m leaving my day job in December and starting out on a similar journey. Looking forward to reading your progress and learning from your experiences, David. I’m sure you’ll do well.

    • http://www.HeroicDestiny.com David Crandall

I LOVE THAT YOU HAVE A DATE!!! I’m learning that there is such power in putting out real dates for your goals like that. That is such a huge encouragement, Niall, to see that you have taken that step and intentionally designed out part of your life.

I’m excited to have connected with you and look forward to seeing how YOUR journey progresses. Thank you for being so encouraging!

I know how it feels to be at the start of an entrepreneur type journey, I’m in the same boat, daunting yet exciting! Really looking forward to hearing more about your venture!
